Welcome to International FLAT Day!
You can learn all about the event here, view the inaugural event photo gallery, request or print the “Flat is Beautiful” brochure, and more.
International FLAT Day is October 7th

“International FLAT Day” was created to celebrate going flat – to promote breast reconstruction awareness, to promote flat closure (breastless, chest wall reconstruction after mastectomy), to promote aesthetic flat closure as a valid choice, and to bring together the flat community in sisterhood and solidarity!
Why October 7th?
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month… but also, the 7th is the day of the ancient Egyptian goddess Ma’at. She represents all that is right in the world: truth, justice, balance, order, harmony, propriety and reciprocity. Organizing principles to live by in advocacy and in life.
TRUTH – full disclosure of information
JUSTICE – respect for our informed choice
BALANCE – flat advocacy and breast cancer advocacy go hand in hand
ORDER – moving forward diligently, one step at a time
HARMONY – respect for the diversity of experiences of women in the flat community
PROPRIETY – the golden rule
RECIPROCITY – lifting each other up and amplifying each other’s voices

Who organizes IFD?
International FLAT Day began as a joint project of two prominent explant advocates, Christy Avila (Fierce, Flat, Forward) and Robyn Towt (Global Patient Advocacy Coalition), and grew to include Devorah Vester, Penny Dubbs Dudek, Shana Whitehead, and Kim Bowles (Not Putting on a Shirt). We share a common goal of wanting to #putflatonthemenu by celebrating the flat advocacy community, and enabling “open-source” sharing of resources on going flat developed by our diverse and passionate flat advocacy community.
